Cut it out- domestic violence training for salon professionals

Created by the Centre for Education and Research on Violence Against Women & Children at Western University, this training program is coordinated locally by the J4WRT and provides 1 hour free education sessions for salon professionals across Haldimand & Norfolk focused on violence against women, and how to recognize and respond as a salon professional. This program is offered at no cost, and can be offered in house (in the salon) or at Haldimand & Norfolk Women’s Services in Simcoe, Ontario. Each participant receives a certificate of completion following the training, and is connected with local resources and services so if the need ever arises, they can provide a vital link to help to a woman experiencing violence and her children. Contact us to book a free 1 hour presentation for your salon today or to inquire about our next open training. Visit the H&N Cut it Out Facebook Page to stay connected.

make it our business- domestic violence training for workplaces and community groups

Make It Our Business (MIOB) is a provincial campaign coordinated by the Centre for Research & Education on Violence against Women & Children (CREVAWC). MIOB is focused on providing information and education to help employers and other workplace stakeholders to meet their obligations under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act. According to the Act, employers must prevent and respond to domestic violence in the workplace.

Make It Our Business develops resources to engage employers and other workplace stakeholders to prevent workplace domestic violence, to support employees at risk of or currently experiencing domestic violence, and to improve workplace health and safety. We outline how employers, supervisors, managers, human resources professionals, security personnel, union representatives, and co-workers can recognize abusive relationships, respond to domestic violence, and refer victims and abusers to supports that offer help.

Make It Our Business also offers a variety of training options for the workplace. In addition to helping people understand the dynamics of domestic violence and abusive relationships (including physical abuse, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, financial abuse), we engage your employees, with their varying roles and responsibilities, to create a safe and supportive workplace culture.

This training is delivered to local businesses, free of charge, by the Haldimand & Norfolk Justice for Women Review Team. Training can be delivered in your workplace, or at Haldimand & Norfolk Women’s Services. This evidence based training is based on information from the  Domestic Violence Death Review Committee which advises the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario and takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete.

Workplaces in the social services, healthcare, and legal sectors often find employees are able to gain insights and information which helps them to:

  • Identify abuse and risk in their own lives and connect with services

  • Recognize and respond to concerns a coworker is experiencing violence at home

  • Increase their capacity to provide information and support to clients who have experienced intimate partner violence

Contact us to book a presentation for your entire staff at no cost today or to discuss management training options.
